Featured artist: Sue MedarisS.V. (Sue) Medaris was born in California and grew up in the Midwest. She graduated from the University of California, Santa Barbara with a Fine Art degree, then travelled and lived in various parts of Mexico and Central America. Later, Sue settled in Wisconsin and graduated from Madison Area Technical College with a Commercial Art degree. At MATC, she discovered the world of illustration and communication with visual art. From there, Sue made a transition back to Fine Art with oils, pastels and intaglio, portraying the drama of rural life on the farm.Sue now lives on a farm in Southern Wisconsin with her family, amidst chickens, dogs, cats, peafowl, turkeys, and pigs, from which she draws inspiration for art. After two successful solo exhibitions: “A One Chick Show: Of Cocks and Hens” (Oct. 2004), and “The Lives of Farm Dogs (Oct. 2005), featuring working farm dogs from south central and western Wisconsin, Sue continues to create oils, pastels, and etchings of farm life. Sue has exhibited at the Leigh Yawkey Woodson Art Museum’s International Birds in Art Show, the Wisconsin Biennial, solo exhibits at various locales, inclusion in the Dane County Cultural Affairs Commission annual calendar, and purchases by corporate collections such as Epic Systems and the UW Hospitals. Sue created two cows for Madison’s Cow Parade, and painted a violin for Art of Note. Related Website: www.svmedaris.com |
